Why Permanent Residency?
Looking for a one-and-done solution to live in Mexico long-term? The Mexican Permanent Residency visa gives you lifetime legal status with no need to renew, no reapplications, and no physical presence requirements.
Whether you're retiring, relocating, or building your Plan B, this is the most efficient immigration status Mexico offers.
You'll receive a Permanent Resident Card with no expiration date. No need to renew annually, no reapplication ever required, travel freely — come and go as you like, and you're eligible to apply for Mexican citizenship after 5 years of residence and physical presence.
- Mexico generally does not approve permanent residency at the consulate level unless the applicant is of retirement age and can demonstrate passive income or substantial savings.
- If you're not retirement age, you may need to apply for the 4-Year Temporary Residency first and upgrade to permanent status later.
The Process
